How to write an internship request in Arabic

Government offices, local authorities and many state-owned companies handle their mail in Arabic. A request in their language reaches the right desk straight away.

1. The subject line (الموضوع) names the type of placement: تربص نهاية الدراسة for a final-year project, تربص تطبيقي for vocational training.
2. The opening تحية طيبة وبعد، then your studies, field and school in one sentence.
3. The period: length and start month, using the month names written in Algeria (جانفي، فيفري، جوان، جويلية).
4. One sentence that only fits this organisation, then your skills.
5. The closing formula, your signature and contact details that are easy to read.

What gives a careless request away

• A letter translated word for word from French: it reads wrong from the first line.
• A masculine form (الطالب) sent by a female student, or the other way round. The template only uses gender-neutral phrasing.
• Middle Eastern month names (يونيو، يوليو) instead of the ones used in Algeria (جوان، جويلية).
