What an employment letter must include

An attestation de travail proves that someone currently works for the company. No law sets its format: banks, consulates and government offices mainly check these details.

  • The company letterhead: name, address and, ideally, trade register and tax ID.
  • The employee's identity: name, date and place of birth, plus the social security number if requested.
  • The job held, the start date and the type of contract (permanent CDI or fixed-term CDD).
  • The gross monthly salary, only when the recipient asks for it (bank, housing): the document then becomes an employment and salary letter.
  • The date, the signer's name and job title, their signature and the company stamp.

Frequently asked questions

Employment letter or certificate of employment?

The attestation is issued during the contract, at the employee's request, to prove they work there. The certificat is issued when employment ends and is mandatory under the Labour Code (Law 90-11, article 67), with start and end dates and the jobs held.

Who signs it?

The manager, director or HR head: someone authorised to commit the company. Without a signature and stamp, most bodies will reject it.

Is this the form the CNAS or CNR asks for?

No. For sick leave, maternity leave or a pension file, the CNAS and CNR funds have their own employment and salary forms, available from the fund itself.

Can it be written in English?

These documents circulate in French or Arabic in Algeria, so the template offers both. Pick the language the recipient asks for.
